Jane Bayes discusses the history, strategic positions, and political tactics of African Americans, women, and Chicanos in the United States during the 20th century. She argues that while it is clear that minority politics have been used by these groups to obtain more goods, status, and power in social, economic, and political affairs, such ideologies and tactics are in fact good for the whole society because in their challenging of the dominant world view they serve as an important source of insight and creativity for social change.
